Who we are?
01 Hotels & Hostels is a well established company which operates homely backpacker hostels and hotels across the UK. There are three operating sites located in London, Bournemouth and Exeter.
We are currently seeking to find a Hostel Manager for our London site, which trades as ‘Prime Backpackers Angel’. This site has capacity for about 100 beds, arranged in private and dormitory rooms.
It is housed in a historic Grade II listed building in Angel, Islington, a few minutes walk from Angel tube station and steps away from Regent’s Canal. The building was completely refurbished in 2015.
It operates all year round, but is particularly busy in the autumn and at weekends. It is a Hen and Stag free zone, and attracts people who wish to stay in a relaxed hostel with a large modern kitchen, a lounge, and a tv room. Our ethos is all about getting people to share their experience over food, and encouraging people to explore hidden London.
You will be the ideal candidate for this role if you have experience in the hospitality industry, preferably within a busy hostel in a capital city.
Who we are looking for?
You will be charismatic and empathetic, with a strong customer service ethos. You like being around people of all nationalities and backgrounds. You are able to speak, understand and write English fluently. Ideally you will speak another language or two, but have the patience to deal with people who struggle to be understood since they are a long way from home speaking a language which is not their own.
You are able to deal with potential conflict situations in a calm, constructive and professional manner. You like to have fun, but understand when fun has gone too far and must be brought back into check. You will be able to facilitate a positive vibe within the hostel, as well as a motivated team around you.
You are comfortable using technology and social media – Prime uses an electronic booking system which is easy to master with the right training. You understand how important it is to keep the hostel clean and tidy, and expect to contribute to this objective by lending a hand with the cleaning yourself, as well as managing and recruiting a small team of people to assist in this task. You will be a good role model for the whole team working in the hostel, and already have experience managing others.
You are responsible and trustworthy. You are able to ensure that monies and guests’ credit card information are well looked after, and revenues are optimised. You will know what needs to be done in the case of emergency, and have some knowledge of first aid and fire safety. You have knowledge of DIY that you will be happy tackling simple issues, but also know when you need to call upon the maintenance team.
You will be able to work un-supervised, focus on priorities and work all issues through to a successful resolution. This is a very hands on role and you will be keen to do your share and more.
Above all you will be a great fit for Prime, if want to create a happy home for yourself and the people you share the space with.
In return we will provide private staff accommodation in the building, a good salary, and paid holiday.
What we offer:
- A FAMILY and a home away from home!
- A competitive salary, with annual bonuses depending on performance
- Private accommodation (with kitchen and private bathroom) in the building
- High speed Wifi throughout the whole place
- Room to bring in your thoughts, ideas, and personality

- Unlimited amount of fun
