Local Spotlight #15 - Hampstead Heath Ponds

It is set to be another hot summer week in London. With the sunshine in mind, we thought we’d share one of our favourite open air swimming spots in North London. Our local spotlight this week is Hampstead Heath Ponds.

About the ponds

Hampstead Heath is home to some of the best swimming spots, including a lido as well as the natural ponds. The are about 18 ponds across Hampstead, which have been used for ice skating, fishing, boating and swimming over the years. These natural ponds have been welcoming these activities since the 1930s!

There are 3 different ponds used today; the mixed pond, ladies pond, and mens bond. See this map to view where they are located. All the ponds are life guarded, and there are small changing and shower facilities too.

Take a look at this video, to see the men’s ponds in the 30s - watch here.

What we love

After your swim, relax and sunbathe by the ponds. We recommend bringing a picnic and blanket, and while away the day…
